Roopa Pemmaraju is a Fair Trade luxury fashion company that makes ready to wear garments, that are as ethical as they are beautiful. The designs for the clothes, are created by Australian indigenous artists, who then send the designs to the ateliers in Bangalore who specialize in hand weaving, block printing and other sustainable art forms. The fascination with ancient proceses as well as designs can be seen in the Roopa Pemmaraju collections. The clothes are inspired by nature, and indigenous artworks, yet they look modern and trendy. The collection ranges from colorful coverups, to beautiful chiffon maxi dresses. I would love to wear these clothes, but a full pattern might be a bit much. To break it up I would pair a printed maxi skirt with a plain cotton shirt, printed shirts with plain skinny jeans, or throw on a casual denim jacket (rolled sleeves) over a maxi dress. I love that you can trust that this line is thought through from beginning to end. Design, production, style, and fit, were all taken into as much consideration as the ethical approach to creating them. I love the idea of Fair Trade, and I wish Roopa Pemmaraju great success.
