Hedi Slimane created a beautiful collection for the debut of Saint Laurent, for the major fashion house Yves Saint Laurent. I was certainly blown away by the shows beautifully constructed clothing, that has taken a rather exciting and youthful turn, but also because Daft Punk duo Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter put together a wonderful soundtrack to the show. The melodic riffs, set the tone for Saint Laurent’s consumer as trendy, risk taking, beautiful and with great taste in music. The soundtrack takes songs by Junior Kimbrough and compiles it in a seemingly perfect and unedited song. It reminded me of the Black Keys, and rightfully so, since the Black Keys have covered many Junior Kimbrough songs. This show totally transported me, to a place where Fleetwood Mac and Janice Joplin would have drinks after a show. Saint Laurent’s Spring Summer 2013 collection includes large floppy hats, wide brim panamas and long capes. The color palate says screw the weather, black is flattering, sexy and bold. Saint Laurent dares the cool girl in every one of us to try on a hat, or cape and rock it. I loved the show, and I am sorry to have posted about it so long after the fact. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
